Here are some travel tips for your next trip to Japan.


A) Flights to Japan from U.S. (Mainland) & gateways in Japan

1) Narita Tokyo International Airport (NRT)

Tokyo International Airport (Narita-NRT) is the main gateway to Japan. There are direct flights from New York, Washington DC, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Toronto. Haneda Airport (HND) is near downtown Tokyo and is used for domestic flights.

2) Kansai International Airport Osaka (KIX)

If you visit Kyoto and Nara, Osaka (KIX) is the airport to fly into. Direct flights from U.S. (mainland) to KIX depart from Detroit (NW) and San Francisco (UA). The airport for domestic flights in Osaka is called Itami Airport (ITM).

B) Domestic travel in Japan

1) Flight Coupons


Special discounts are available for domestic flights for foreigners.
All Nippon Airways offers 1 flight - 1 coupon program (1 coupon = 12600 yen)

2) Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass)—Unlimited Pass

JR passes may be purchased at M.O. Air. These passes must be purchased before your arrival in Japan. The pass is valid on any JR train except for Nozomi which is one of the bullet trains). The pass may also be used for JR buses and ferries. There are 3 types of passes:

Tokyo-Osaka (approx 3 hours in case of taking Shinkansen bullet train)
Tokyo-Nagoya (approx 100 min in case of Shinkansen))
Tokyo-Sendai (approx 100 min in case of Shinkansen)
Tokyo-Chitose/Hokkaido (approx 16 hours and 30 min in case of Express)
Osaka-Hakata (approx 2 hours and a half in case of Shinkansen)
Osaka-Hiroshima (approx 1 hour and a half in case of Shinkansen)

C) Accommodations

There are various hotels and Japanese-style accommodations called ryokan.
Staying in a ryokan will provide you with a genuine Japanese experience: sleeping on the tatami floor on a futon, emerging yourself in an outdoor hotsprings bath with a view of beautiful landscape. Please ask us about information.

2) Cell Phones
The number of public phones is decreasing since the use of mobile phones is popular in Japan. Many public phones require special telephone cards which must be purchased in advance. Otherwise, cell phones can be rented.

3) Money
U.S. travellers checks and cash must be exchanged into Japanese currency (yen) at airports, banks or exchange counters in cities.

4) Guide Books
